2006: A Monkey Odyssey – July 1st, 2006
Dance Your Assimov! I don’t care what anyone says, that’s a pretty
clever tag line for the Portland sci-fi event of 2006 – the year Monkey
Puzzle set its sights on doing its next fundraiser at a venue with
permits.
The old Mt. Tabor Theater, while dark and awkward, proved to be the
perfect backdrop for our trippy time traveling romp. While the dim and
sparse lighting was a sham for the cameras, the atmospheric quality of
the low light was actually pretty effective. The projectors worked
better and so did the light reflections off Mark Ricketts’ tension
fabric. Certainly the most intensely rehearsed of the Monkey Puzzle
performances, the original Odyssey theatrical number fell victim to a
skipping CD player - later replaced by one Solovox. Oh, well. Rab and
Ravicher rocked and so did the rest of our friends. At this point in
the game, completing the Odyssey makes it feel like somehow we’ve
arrived.
